During the development of our risk and compliance protocols we have learned a great deal about how to gather information that effectively assesses a given situation. The media can be paper, web based or electronic media depending upon the specifics although web based is becoming more and more prevalent especially with the proliferation of personal electronic devices. Usually the objective is to provide benefits to both the individual taking the survey and to the sponsor of the survey. The benefits can be summarized as follows: Responder: · Gets a relatively fast and inexpensive assessment of their situation which allows them to then determine how, and with what urgency, they need to act to improve their situation. · The in-depth surveys provide detailed rationales for the ranking along with recommendations for the next steps Sponsor: · Gains an insight into both the market and specific responders which improves their ability to provide solutions · Allows an economical approach to qualify a broader segment of prospects for their services There is art required in the development of surveys balancing the need for as much information as one would like versus the inherent reluctance of individuals to give up their own time to respond to any request for information. The reluctance is based on several factors including the loss of time, the concern over providing sensitive information, and of potential embarrassment because of a lack of knowledge.
